Bridal Hair FAQ
Thinking about hair extensions for your big day? You're not alone — it's one of the most common questions we get from brides. Whether you're after extra length, more volume, or staying power for your dream style, extensions can make all the difference. Here are the most common bridal extension questions we hear, along with our tips to help you feel confident and camera-ready from morning to night.
1. How do I know if I should get hair extensions for my wedding?
If you’re dreaming of fuller hair, added length, or just a little extra wow-factor on your big day, extensions might be the perfect choice. They’re amazing for creating voluminous updos, soft waves, or more structured styles that really hold.
Even if you love your natural hair, extensions can give your style that little boost that makes all the difference in photos and throughout the day. Not sure if they’re for you? Book a consultation with our team—we’ll talk through your vision and help you find the right option, whether that’s semi-permanent extensions for a longer-lasting look or clip-ins for something more flexible.
2. If I’m getting hair extensions, how far in advance should I book my bridal hair trial?
Great question—especially if extensions might be part of your bridal look. While we don’t offer styling services ourselves, we work closely with brides and stylists, and always recommend taking the lead from your chosen stylist when it comes to trial timing.
One thing we’ve noticed is that many brides have their first trial without extensions, only to realise their dream style—whether it's fuller waves, a voluminous bun, or added length—just isn’t achievable without a little extra help. That often leads to a second trial once extensions are added.
If you think you might need extensions, it’s a great idea to chat about it early so they can be factored in from the start.
3. I was waiting until closer to the wedding to get the hair colour I want — is that okay?
When getting extensions, it’s important to have the colour you want for the big day already. Semi-permanent extensions can’t be changed unless you get a whole new set. With clip-ins, you’re choosing a shade you want to achieve rather than your current shade, and you’ll need to bring them to your colourist to get them matched— which isn’t always easy. It’s also helpful to have your final hair colour in place early on, so you can maintain it for makeup trials and other preparations. Extensions can’t be lightened, only darkened, and even that isn’t ideal, so settling on your final colour before choosing extensions is always best.
4. Can I wear a veil with hair extensions?
Yes, you absolutely can! Hair extensions are perfect for creating the volume and texture needed to support a veil. Whether you’re planning a sleek updo or soft waves, extensions provide a solid base for the veil to sit beautifully. Be sure to bring your veil to your trial so your stylist can discuss placement and ensure it stays secure throughout the day.
5. My hair usually drops when it’s styled into curls or waves — will extensions help?
Absolutely! Many brides choose extensions not just for added volume and length, but because they can actually help styles hold better. If your hair tends to drop throughout the day, especially with curls or waves, extensions provide extra grip and structure to keep everything in place. They’re a great way to help your style last from morning to night.
Weddings can be overwhelming, so don’t let your hair add to the stress. Our biggest advice is to plan ahead, get your colour right early on and work closely with your bridal stylist—they know best!
